NAKC hosted a one day Deacons Training program on Fri, Aug 6th 2010 on the day of the Feast of the Transfiguration under the leadership of H.E Mor Silvanos Ayub at St. Thomas Knanaya Church, Clifton, New Jersey.  This was a first time event which brought deacons and Altar assistants from all over North America together in one place to help them understand and standardize our deacons services during the Holy Qurbano across all the Knanaya Churches.

The class started at 8:30am with the Holy Qurbano and ran all day and concluded with the evening prayer.  Fr. Thomas Abraham Lahayil, Fr. Jacob Joseph Parathodathil, and Dn. Jeevan Puthiamadathil assisted H.E to organize this event.  This was a first time event in our North American Knanaya Church history where we hold an official Deacon training at a national level.

We were also blessed by the presence of H.G Mor Gregorios Kuriakose, our bishop of Kalisseri region who took time from his busy schedule to attend and help us with this very important initiative.  Along with both our bishops, Rev Fr. C.M Punnoose Chaluvelil (President of NAKC), Rev. Fr. Jacob Joseph Parathodathil and Rev. Dn. Moncy Manimalethu lead the classes on various relevant topics.  The main focus of this event was to educate our deacons about the faith of the Syriac Orthodox Church and significance of each and every rituals during our Holy Qurbano.

By the Grace of God the event was a great success and the attendees recommended that we should do these kinds of programs more often.  People traveled from far and near like Chicago, Dallas, Houston and Boston including all the local churches in North east.

Lastly we would like to thank the committee and the members of the St. Thomas Knanaya Church, Clifton, NJ who graciously provided the church to conduct this event without which this program would not have been successful.
